In Aria, ten different directors, including Ken Russell, Jean-Luc Godard, Robert Altman, Bruce Beresford and Nicolas Roeg use an aria as both the inspiration and score for a short film. The film features a peculiar cast, including Tilda Swinton, John Hurt, and the film debut of Bridget Fonda.




Spiral Cinema is an ongoing collaboration between Max Guy and Neil Sanzgiri in the form of film screenings and self-published essays. In the first incarnation of Spiral Cinema (hosted at Open Space Gallery) we presented four documentaries that explored how creative liberties in the editing, directing and writing of each film affect audience’s understanding of time and consciousness. 

For this Spiral Cinema series we have chosen to show films in places where context transforms content and vice versa. We wish to share our filmic experience with audiences in hopes of gaining a wider understanding of what the spaces represent both culturally and experientially. Whether it is an opera screened at a bar, or an existentialist drag racing film played at an auto-body shop turned art gallery, these films provide greater context and philosophical insight into an audiences’ perception of space. As part of this series we will be commissioning local artists to redesign posters for each movie and musicians to release an online soundtrack/score as a primer to the screening.
